Fight Like Apes
The current buzz band of the Dublin underground scene, Fight Like Apes have spent the last year whipping up a storm around the capital with their brash, brutish eclectic punk rock; enviable B-movie art-pop styling; and imaginative and lengthy EP titles. Harking back to some of the best dressed bands, the sassy quartet embody all that is great about pop with their carefully crafted image presenting them as the coolest crew in town. Having inked a deal with Irish indie label FIFA Records, Maykay, Pockets, Adrian and Tom first emerged in early 2007 with their sell-out EP 'How Am I Supposed To Kill You If You Have All the Guns?' That release led to performances at last year's Electric Picnic, followed by a packed show at the Hard Working Class Heroes festival and a trip to New York for the CMJ Music Marathon. Second EP 'David Carradine Is a Bounty Hunter Who's Robotic Arm Hates Your Crotch' followed in October and continued to raise their profile with lead track 'Do You Karate?' becoming a minor hit on the independent scene. Since then Fight Like Apes have toured the UK for the first time where their track 'Jake Summers' has been released as a 7" vinyl through the influential Fierce Panda's sister label, Cool For Cats. XFM and the BBC have both earmarked them as one to watch, while this month (February) sees the band track the length and breadth of Britain with The Von Bondies. On the back of a superb performance at 'Other Voices', one thing is for sure that 2008 is set to be extremely busy for Fight Like Apes.
